Marriage is the gateway into physical union, the third level of relationship. Physical intimacy is consummated in marriage not before.
As it says in the Scripture, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh” (Gen. 2:24).
The phrase “one flesh” is a sexual reference. Marriage does not bring two spirits together; that occurs at the first level. Neither does it join the minds, wills, and emotions, which takes place at the “soulical” level. Marriage brings a man and a woman together physically; it is essentially sexual in nature. It is designed to meet the physical needs of two people who are already one in spirit and soul.
