Is he a Christian?
The first and most important question of all should be, “Is he a Christian?” This is not the same as asking whether a person is Baptist or Catholic or Pentecostal or Methodist, because there are many people in those and all other denominations as well, who are not genuine believers.
Our question is whether or not the person is a Christian. Has he entered into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour through faith, repentance, and surrender of life? Is there evidence of that personal relationship in his behaviour and lifestyle? If we wish to be in the will of God in our marriage, then our mate needs to be of the same spiritual persuasion as we are, and walk in the same spirit relationship with God.
