Even in lockdown, everybody needs Jesus

Don’t be deceived! Many people have not yet encountered our risen Lord Jesus Christ. And this is mainly because many believers have not taken the Gospel to them. I’m always stirred by the story of Pastor Karen Victor when she went to Bethlehem (just a year or two ago), where Jesus was born. She was on the streets of Bethlehem when she met a young lady and engaged her in a conversation. Pastor Karen asked the young lady, “Do you know Jesus?” The young lady quizzed, “Who is that?” 😱 How in the world would someone walking on the streets of the town in which the Saviour of the world was born not know him?! Well, Pastor Karen told the young lady about Jesus, explaining to her how much the Lord loves her and the young lady surrendered her life to Christ. Not only that, Pastor Karen laid her hands on the young lady and she was filled with the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues on the streets of Bethlehem! Hallelujah!

Do you think everybody has already heard about Jesus? No, they haven’t! And we have a divine mandate to let every boy, girl, man and woman know this amazing Man of Galilee, who is the Lord of All.

Considering the times we are in today, you may not have the opportunity to reach out to somebody out there physically due to restrictions in your nation. But let me share with you some very vital things you can do:

Intensify your intercession

So, you may be at home, bored and all, flipping through TV channels and wishing life was back to normal. But who will make that happen? Is it the government or the health workers? Who exactly will salvage our world today? It is YOU! You are the salt of the earth. You are called to preserve the earth. You can effect changes in our world from your room as you intercede for the leaders, the health workers and those who are lost. You see, the fate of the world rests in your mouth. You must pray. Don’t wait around for things to go back to normal, otherwise before you know it, things would become worse than they already are. Now that you have time on your hands, spend time alone with God on your knees in fervent intercession. Make a list of your friends and loved ones whom you’ve criticised for so long but have never said a prayer for before. Then pray for them. The Lord will hear you and you will practically see changes. Don’t leave anything to chance. This is the time to rise up in fervent prayer day and night, receiving God’s mercies on behalf of those who have backslidden. Call up your spiritual friends and pray together.

Become more conversant with the message of salvation

If you do not have a firm grip on the essence of the Gospel, I advise you to search the Scriptures. Study to know Jesus better and understand who He is and what He came to do. If you want to be effective an a soul winner, you must have the right message- Jesus! So how do you become more conversant with the message of the Gospel? Well, first of all, you need to understand how the Gospel is working in your own life. What has Jesus done for you? In simple terms, He died on the cross for your sins, God raised Him from the dead and you believed in Him so now you have eternal life in you. So you are saved.

Look carefully at John 3:16,17 and you will see that the whole Gospel is summed up in there. If that’s not enough for you, you can go to YouTube and watch a message by Reinhard Bonnke entitled The Blood of Jesus. You can also check out the ‘Meet Jesus’ page of my blog (www.rhemainfocus.blogspot.com) to get the message. On Facebook, you can follow Sandy Amponsah’s posts. Or better still, there is an amazing book by E.W. Kenyon entitled ‘What happened from the Cross to the Throne’. These are all resources that will help you to become more conversant with the Gospel so that you can articulate it well. Now more than ever, we need to share the pure message of God’s grace and love for humanity expressed in Jesus Christ.

Be filled with the Spirit

Ephesians 5:18 speaks of how we should continually be filled with the Spirit. Why is it so important? Because that was the secret of the Apostles in the early Church. They were continually filled with the Spirit. As a result, they spoke the Word of God with boldness (see Acts 4:29-31). So how do you get filled with the Spirit? One of the principal ways is to pray in tongues. As you pray in tongues, you communicate with God directly. Verse 19 of Ephesians 5 says “Speaking to yourselves…” Speak in tongues. He says speak to yourself in Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. That’s how to be filled with the Spirit. Speak Psalms, and hymns and spiritual songs. Don’t be singing songs that pollute your soul with demons of lust and impurity. Make melody in your heart to the Lord. Give Him thanks always! As you do these, you are filled with the Spirit and that positions you to effectively witness to other people.

Witness to your neighbours

If you have an 8-5 job, chances are that your main conversation with your neighbours goes this way:

Morning

You: Good morning

Them: Good morning. Go and come.

Evening

You: Good evening

Them: Good evening. Welcome back.

And the cycle continues week after week, and you don’t even take the time to find out if they have eaten that day, let alone know if they know Jesus.

If you are a student back home, this is your perfect opportunity. Seize it. Engage your neighbours and share the Gospel.

As a worker, now that you don’t go to the office every day, take some slots out of your day and talk to somebody about Jesus. You can still maintain social distancing as you do that. You don’t have to get so close to someone to tell them about Jesus.

You may be thinking that how are you going to reach out at a time when everybody is so anxious. This is why you were filled with the Spirit- to minister hope and life to those around you. Refuse to fear!

I thought the lockdown was so serious that I had not seen the sunshine in some days. But one evening, I walked out my gate to see if I could get something to eat. Behold! People were everywhere. Some were having conversations. Shops were open. Food vendors were there…with people queued up. I thought to myself, “This is my opportunity. I thought I had missed every opportunity to preach the Gospel to anybody. I will take advantage of this to minister to people.” Thankfully, I had been spending extended periods in the Secret Place in the previous days.

A few days later, I went out with one thing in mind: to win souls. Six teenagers were aimlessly chit-chatting in front of a house. I approached them and shared the Gospel with them. Then I led them to Christ. I told them I’d meet them again…and I am looking forward to us winning the whole community. Now more than ever, I see how I wasted opportunities in the past. I’m very sure I used to pass by these same people day in and day out but I was not focused on them because “I had things to do”. But now, things are different!

Win the lost at any cost!

You may not be able to go out but if you live in a compound house, you can go to your neighbour and talk to them about Jesus. If you don’t live in a compound house, simple gestures like cooking food and taking it to the neighbour next door can earn you a conversation. Rise up and take the message out there.

Harness the power of Technology

You may have more than 100 contacts on your phone right now. Are they all saved (no pun intended)? You may have connections on LinkedIn. Are they all saved? You may have followers on Twitter or Instagram. Are they all saved? And what about those who view your WhatsApp status updates? Are they all saved? Do you care at all? Look, this is the time to painstakingly sift through your contacts, followers and Friends on Facebook. Send them a dm. Start a conversation and bless them with the Gospel. Share the love of Christ. Offer to pray for somebody. Don’t share frivolous videos and memes for entertainment only. Stand out as the light in a dark world.

You can harness the power of technology as you also give offerings during Online Services to help in the propagation of the Gospel. Your seeds go a long way alleviate pain and depression and restore hope and life to people.

So there you are: five ways to make Jesus known even in a lockdown. Which of them resonates the most with you? I would love to hear from you. Post a comment below or send me a message on how this helps you reach out. God bless you! Stay safe!

Stir your Spirit for Answers

For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries (1 Corinthians 14:2).

Sometimes, people experience certain things in their lives that they shouldn’t and are completely at a loss for answers. For example, you could find that as a Christian, you seem to be experiencing a certain kind of pain or discomfort that wouldn’t go away. You might have prayed, rebuked the pain, and even rebuked the devil, but to no avail. Now, you’re wondering what the problem could be. Look to your spirit for the answer.

As God’s children, we’re never in the dark about anything. You can know anything, if you’d do what the Scripture says. Speak in tongues and receive answers from your spirit; your inner man. Before long, the mystery about that situation will come to your understanding. Jesus said, “…he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12). You’re not supposed to walk in darkness about your finances, your health, your career, business, ministry or any area of your life.

The light of God is in your spirit. The Bible says, “The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly” (Proverbs 20:27). If you have concerns about your health or about anything, speak in tongues. Don’t just run to the doctors or places you think you might find help. Consult with the Holy Spirit first; you’ll be amazed how quickly His light and wisdom will well up within you, showing you precisely what to do. He’s in you to help you understand certain things about yourself and about life. He’ll show you the future and guide you to take specific steps in line with His plans for your life. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for the guidance of your Spirit. As I speak in tongues, the eyes of my understanding are flooded with light. I don’t walk in darkness, for I have the light of life in my spirit. With every challenge I face, your light and wisdom well up within me, showing me precisely what to do, how to do them and when to do them, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

You can FREE yourself

Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you (John 15:3).

There’s a strong connection between bad habits and demonic influence; and frankly, they flow into each other. The human person is a spirit, and so, if he has a habit, it’s a spiritual habit. Habits are formed from repetition of actions. There’re good habits and there’re bad habits. If you practise good actions, they result in good habits; if you practise bad actions, they result in bad habits.

Satan often takes the opportunity of bad habits to manipulate people. However, he can’t force his will upon anyone ordinarily; rather, it’s about man yielding himself to the devil or refusing to do so. If he yields himself to the devil, then the devil takes advantage of him. Most people yield themselves without realizing they’re doing it. Hence, walking in the spirit and the knowledge of the Word is vital to a victorious Christian life.

In our opening scripture, Jesus said, “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.” This means the Word of God is a cleanser; it purifies you. If you take the Word of God and meditate on it, it’ll rid you of anything that’s unwholesome or unclean. It’ll eradicate the darkness from your life.

Once, I was ministering to a lady, and rebuking the devil from her, and there was a young man standing behind me among those who were watching. When I was done, he got my attention and said, “Pastor, I used to have the same problem that you just dealt with in that lady. I had those same evil spirits in me.” I said, “So what happened?” He said, “Through meditation on God’s Word, they all left me.” That’s the power of God’s Word!

You don’t need to have deliverance services to cast out devils from Christians; teach them the Word. The Christian is superior to Satan; he’s seated with Christ, far above principality and power. So, if you’ve been under some demonic attacks or influence, if you’d consciously meditate on God’s Word, you’ll free yourself. You can say, “In the Name of Jesus Christ, I break the influence of Satan and evil spirits over my life and my actions and refuse to yield to their sway henceforth!”

CONFESSION

I walk in perfection and excellence, producing works and fruits of righteousness, because I live in the Word. The Word of God has the ascendancy in my life and purifies me through and through—spirit, soul and body. I’m sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit in my life, who causes me to walk in God’s perfect will and in the glory of God. Amen.

Wealth for Everyday Solution

Give us this day our daily bread (Matthew 6:11).

As a child of God, the government of your country isn’t supposed to decide your prosperity. There’s a higher government—heaven’s government—and you belong in that government. Under heaven’s government, your financial prosperity is for all-time; there’s supply for you every day!

Unlike the governments of this world, there’s no “welfare” system or pension program with God. He’s bigger, and does better than that. He has a glorious plan for your life and has made provisions for your future. You never have to live your life on some pension, charity, or benefit from the government or anyone. The Bible says He has given you all that pertains to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3); all that you need, to require no aid or support. Hallelujah!

God’s purpose is that you’re big enough to help others. He didn’t intend for you to be the one needing help. The Bible says saviours shall arise from Mount Zion (Obadiah 1:21); that’s you and me. We’re heirs of God, and through us He blesses and makes many rich. There’re many around us who are in dire need, and we must heed their cry for help.

We read in our theme verse how Jesus taught His disciples to pray. Part of the content of that prayer format was, “Give us this day our daily bread.” He was letting us know that there’s a daily provision, and your name is on it! The provisions you never claimed have accumulated, waiting for you.

It’s time to lay claims to them. It’s about time you said, “Father, I’m ready; all your daily provisions for me that I never claimed, I receive them now!” Have the boldness to call them forth. Don’t wait to get to heaven and discover there was so much you could have had that you never took advantage of. Claim what’s yours. Your salary or pension or profit from business aren’t your source. God is your source, and He has provision for you EVERY DAY. Praise God!

CONFESSION

Thanks be unto God who daily loads me with benefits! He’s made all grace—every favour and earthly blessing—come to me in abundance, such that I’m always and under all circumstances and whatever the need, self-sufficient—possessing enough to require no aid or support, and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation. Hallelujah!

Be Conscious of the Spirit

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:25).

There’s a spirit world that’s greater than this physical world. The physical world is a region or part of the spirit world. The Bible says God is a Spirit, and He created all things; meaning that there’s a spirit connection to everything that God made. Nothing is detached from Him. In the realm of the spirit, He created a region for the physical man, even though man himself is a spirit being.

God gave man a physical body to live in, while in the physical region of His spiritual world. The earth isn’t a separate entity from God’s realm. Remember, in Genesis 1:2, the Bible says the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. The Spirit of God incubated over the chaotic mass, which means the earth was within the coverage or reach of the Spirit, and governed by the Spirit. Many, because they don’t realise this, and because they haven’t understood the importance of it, limit their lives to the earthly region of this world. They don’t realise that there’s a greater play in the spirit world.

For every one of us that’s born again, the Bible tells us to walk in the Spirit. How do you walk in the Spirit? It’s walking in the light of God’s Word; walking according to Kingdom principles. Become conscious that you live in, and are from another realm, a heavenly realm that’s greater than this world. That consciousness will put you over the elements, failures, frustrations, darkness and corruption in this physical world.

Life is spiritual, and we live in two worlds. But most people, every day, are only conscious of the physical realm. This is why many go through pain and affliction; victims of incurable diseases, because they’re unable to control life from the spirit. The Bible says you’re in the world, but not of the world. You’re born after Christ, the man from heaven; you bear the image of the heavenly. You’re from the Kingdom of God’s Love Son. Hallelujah! And in that Kingdom, we play by divine principles; the strategies and weapons of our warfare are not of this world (2 Corinthians 10:4). We reign by grace through righteousness, and we prevail with, and through the Word. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION

The eyes of my understanding are enlightened to recognise my divine abilities in Christ, and to comprehend and apprehend the spiritual realities of the heavenly Kingdom to which I belong, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

Romans 8:9-10 NIV

You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness.

Romans 8:13-14

For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

“…I will pray until I become prayer itself.”

David says in Psalms 109:4 (The Passion Translation), “…I will pray until I become prayer itself.” There must be some earnestness to your prayer, supplication and intercession unto God. Such passion and fervour that drives you to tarry in His Presence for hours upon hours, not because you want to get God to do something for you but simply because you’re bringing yourself and all creation to align with His perfect will.

As you pray in the Spirit, you shed off your mortality and unite yourself with Divinity, making power available to effect changes in the realm of the Spirit.

Always Victorious

Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place (2 Corinthians 2:14).

There’s a reason the Church is the most persecuted of the demographics in the world: Satan is afraid of what’s coming, and he’s making so much effort to cause fear in the hearts of many. But he’s a failure. Mighty things are happening in the Church of Jesus Christ, and the devil can’t contain it. What’s happening with us is bigger than what’s happening in Technology, Science, or Politics.

In Matthew 16:18, Jesus said, “…I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” The word, “Gates” is symbolic in prophetic language for “power and dominion.” So, the powers of hell, the dominion of hell, shall not prevail against the Church.

The Church, right from inception, has survived and endured many terrible persecutions, and will always out-live her detractors. That’s because the Word of God is clear: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us” (Romans 8:35-37).

We’re forever victorious. We crush every opposition and conquer every adversity. That’s the blessing upon the Church. The Holy Spirit is the Boss of the Church, and He’s God. He’s working in, with, and through us. It’s impossible for us to fail. We won before we started; we’re just acting out the script that’s already been written. Hallelujah!

The Amplified version of our theme verse says, “But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumph [as trophies of Christ’s victory….” That’s what’s happening. We’re in a Holy Ghost victory parade. What you need is to stay focused on the work of the Lord, serving Him with joy. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION:

I’m a member of the glorious and triumphant body of Christ. Therefore, I’m indestructible; no matter what happens, I win, because the Word puts me over and guarantees my victory. Greater is He that’s in me than he that’s in the world. I reign and rule with Christ, now and always, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

Romans 8:37-39 (KJV)
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 John 4:4 (KJV)
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

1 Corinthians 15:57-58 (KJV)
57 But thanks [be] to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Rely on the Holy Ghost

My mind was taken back to a day in Oakland when some seniors came to my classroom and handed us small pieces of paper on which they had written verses of Scripture. We were three friends who used to attend Day Students’ Scripture Union together. These seniors were Executives of the Union and gave us foreknowledge that we would be preaching on the verses they had given us. As a form 1 boy, I didn’t give it a second thought, mainly because I was not ready to preach and I did not know how to preach. I had no eloquence whatsoever.
So the day came and we were supposed to read out the verse and share our understanding of it. I can’t even recall whether or not I read the verse before the day…but it’s quite interesting that it was from John 16, a chapter popularly referenced when sharing on the Person and the the Work of the Holy Spirit. I asked God for them to skip me and call someone else to read and share his verse, but it seems I was supposed to be called upon that day.
When the senior called me, I walked up to the lectern, quivering with the small paper they gave me in hand and my Bible. I opened to the portion and read it out. Then I said a few words I can’t remember…but I’m definitely sure that I messed up big time. One thing I know about me is this: if I do a presentation and I can’t recall anything I said months or years after, then I must have really messed it up. I marched to my seat, thinking to myself, “What was that? I don’t even understand what I read out.”
As I thought through that experience, I was humbled and grateful to God for His precious Holy Spirit, without Whom nothing in my life would work out well. He has really changed my life…well, there’s a lot more to learn and change.
Fast forward to form 3, here I was standing on a stage and preaching the Gospel with boldness to form 1 boys in the main Assembly Hall. When I called for those who wanted to be saved, they came forward in droves to receive Christ. As I reflect on this, I can’t help but give the credit to the Holy Spirit, who put His fire in my heart to tell of the love of Jesus!
Today, it is no different. My fear of addressing people about Jesus is gone and I can articulate His message with clarity and joy! The Scriptures are now beautiful to me and I seek to understand more and more, simply because He came into my life and changed everything. No wonder He says you have not been given a Spirit of fear, but of love, of power and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
The Holy Spirit is the single most indispensable Person for you as a child of God. He’s the One called alongside you (John 14:16). Acknowledge Him, recognize Him and rely on Him.
If you have not received the Holy Spirit, this is your opportunity to do so. Jesus said the Father would give the Holy Spirit freely to you if you ask (Luke 11:13). It’s time for you to receive a fresh anointing for living unto and serving the Lord.
Let’s pray:
“Father, thank You so much for the gift of your Holy Spirit. I’m glad you sent Him to help me in this walk of faith. I acknowledge Him today as my Comforter and I receive Him this moment. Father, please fill me with your Holy Spirit today that I may be a bold witness for Jesus and do your work. I receive utterance to speak with other tongues as your Spirit grants me, in Jesus’ Name! Amen!”
