Bucket Lists

I think about eternity almost always. About Jesus. About the future of sinners. About the future of the saints. About how life after death would be. About eternal rewards and damnation. I consider how life would be after this tortuous journey on the earth has ended. And the conclusion I draw is similar to that of the Teacher. He said, “Let us hear the conclusion of the matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13)
In Sonic the Hedgehog, the police officer defined a bucket list as a list of things you would want to do before kicking the bucket. I think it’s an apt definition. Sonic had quite a list, and he had only a few hours to stay on earth before transitioning to the supposed mushroom world.
The point is this: the time is short. What’s on your bucket list? Before Jesus returns or before you walk on in glory, what would you have accomplished for God? The answer lies in the Word: “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.” (Romans 13:11-14).
That’s God’s message to you today. Before you think of that joint you’ve always wanted to visit, consider your state before God. Consider your relationship with Him. Consider your manner of life. Consider your Service before Him. Consider your love for your neighbours. Consider the souls left to be won. Consider the talents you have not deployed yet.
If you don’t know Jesus yet, the first thing on your list should be to receive Him as your Lord and personal Saviour by praying as follows:
“O Lord God, I come to you in the Name of Jesus. I believe with all my heart that you sent your Son Jesus Christ into the world to die for my sins and your raised Him from the dead. I confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life from today and I receive Him into my heart. I am now a child of God! I am a new creation. Glory to God!”
And check that bucket list before you kick the bucket!

Divine Access

…who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this? (Esther 4:14).

There’re people in this world that God has placed to give access to others; access to wealth, to power, to resources, etc. He has ordained someone to be your access, and you may never have that access except through that person. This is because, in working with men, in blessing men, He uses other men.

Take for instance in 1 Kings 17:9 (ASV), God said to Elijah, “Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Sidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustain thee.” It was a time of severe famine and if Elijah was going to have any more food, it was going to come from that woman. Elijah could go anywhere else, if he chose, but if he was going to walk in God’s perfect will for that moment, it had to be through that woman.

For the woman, Elijah was her access for her next level. She was in abject penury, and if she was ever going to come out of that squalor, it would be her connection to Elijah. Through Elijah, she was in turn sustained and went from penury into prosperity (read the entire account in 1 Kings 17). That’s not all; when her son fell ill and died, she got a miracle; the young lad was raised back to life by the prophet, Elijah.

Likewise, the children of Israel remained as slaves in Egypt, until Moses responded to the call of God to bring them out. Moses was their access. Jesus Himself was our access to the Father’s presence and He knew it. He said, “…No one comes to the Father, but by me” (John 14:6 RSV).

Recognize those you’re to give access, and be prompt to do what the Lord has placed in your heart to do for their benefit or advantage. Also, recognize those the Lord has placed in your path to give you access, whether in ministry, your work, career, politics, etc. It’s a principle in the Kingdom of God, and you have to understand it.

I’m the answer to the cry of many and a solution to my world! The eyes of my understanding are flooded with light to recognize and give access to those the Lord has placed in my path, and I’m both spiritually and financially well capacitated to fulfil this purpose. Likewise, I recognize and take full advantage of those that have been empowered by God to give me access to my next and higher level in my work, ministry, etc., in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Hosea 12:13 (KJV)
And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.

Genesis 12:2 (KJV)
And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

Hebrews 13:16 (KJV)
But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

Matthew 14:13-36
Genesis 49-50

Acts 10:44-11:1-3
Job 13-14

When God Walked the Earth…

When God walked the earth

The vibrations of His vocal cords

Reverberated through time and eternity

Slicing time into B.C. and A.D.

What manner of Man is this?

When God walked the earth

His Presence signified joy on earth

For the signal of this Bright and Morning Star

Beamed smiles across the faces of the grief-stricken

For one aged man embraced eternal glory, having seen His cute and cuddly form

When God walked the earth

The lame walked, the blind saw, and the Gospel was preached

When God walked the earth

The hungry were filled, for He is the Bread of Life

When God walked the earth

The lost found purpose, for He is the Way

When God walked the earth

The dead were raised to life, for He is the Resurrection and the Life

When God walked the earth

He became the Son of man, that the sons of men might become the Sons of God!

Angry Birds 2: Flightless Birds Fly High in Leadership

Some people say cartoons are for children. But contrary to popular opinion, some cartoons are replete with useful lessons for life application. That is not to say that our lives should be guided by lessons from cartoons. Nonetheless, I believe that if you will listen to or watch something, you should learn something at the end of the day that will inspire you and spur you on to good works.
Ever heard of Angry Birds? Yes. That game in which enraged birds are engaged in an epic battle with pigs. Well, there is an animated movie based on the theme of the game.
I don’t really recall the plot of the first one I watched but Angry Birds 2 is very interesting, funny, and thought-provoking. If you haven’t watched it, I wouldn’t like to spoil it for you but let me give you a simple 10,000-foot view.
An incensed, sinister-turned eagle that has her own ice island has vowed to take over two other islands- Bird Island and Piggy Island using iceballs filled with lava! 😱 Her plan is intercepted by the technologically-advanced Piggy Island and they make a truce with Bird Island to stop her and preserve the inhabitants of their islands. Red, the egotistical bird, who has been acclaimed hero for saving Bird Island, is not in favour of the idea of a truce with Piggy Island but eventually the truce falls into place and a team is put together to save both Bird Island and Piggy Island. So that’s how the story goes till they save both islands and even the sinister eagle herself.
Here are some valuable cues to take from these flightless birds:
# Teamwork makes the dream work
The Head of State of Piggy Island assembled a team with complementary gifts that came together to achieve the goal of dismantling the weapon aimed at levelling the two islands. The work may be huge but with right team, it will be done.
# Insecurity can be disastrous
As I pointed out earlier, Red was an egotistical character in the movie. Since holding the title ‘hero’, he did not want to let go off it. He was scared someone else would take his place and protested that a truce was not necessary for Bird Island, even though it was clearly needed.
# No matter the opposition, do your best.
Silver, a very brainy bird, invented a contraption that proved very useful during their mission. However, back in her classroom, she was making a presentation about it…and the birds seated were yawning and sleeping- no one seemed interested. Everybody was doing their own thing, but Silver didn’t give up!
# Don’t underestimate the little children
These cute hatchlings gave me a good laugh! 😂 You should see how they ended up in space in their quest to protect their sibling eggs. They did all they could to protect the eggs but eventually the eggs landed on the body of a coiled snake that was sleeping peacefully. How were they going to save their siblings from this predator? Well, they did! And to top it off, they made and wore a hat and a belt of the snake’s skin, having given it a good beating! Better to be a hatchling awake than a sleeping snake!
# Don’t hesitate to make a U-turn
The sinister eagle was Mighty Eagle’s fiancée that he stood up on their engagement day. 😥
As they progressed to go and destroy the weapon, Mighty Eagle retreated, because he was scared. However, he had a change of heart later and went back to help the team to complete the mission. Same goes with when the hatchlings took away the eggs from that sleeping snake. Do you know they rather took away the snake’s eggs, after all the beating they gave the snake? Well, eventually they returned the snake’s eggs and took back their newly hatched siblings! That’s the way to go!
# Let down your ego
Red’s ego got him into a lot of trouble. In a submarine en route to the ice island, they were examining some really sophisticated tech that could help them complete the mission with ease…but then again Red’s ego was in the way. Point is, things don’t always have to be the way you want them to be, especially when a better alternative is available.
# It’s okay to not have a plan; someone else may
One character on the team that really fascinated me was Silver- a very smart bird (no pun intended). She was mathematically astute and was clearly the one to lead the team…well, from behind.
So, the team is on Eagle Mountain, preparing to go and capture the ice island. Red blurts out a three-step ‘unthoughtthrough plan’ (for want of a word) and grins with satisfaction. But as Silver listens, she scribbles in her notepad “There is no plan”. Nevertheless, she points out what the plan should be. In your team, some unassuming folks could be holding the plan that you struggle to articulate but conceal with loquaciousness and verbosity (😅 verbose, innit?)

She just dey be!

I encountered an insanely stunning lady today

Simply put, she dey be

Her skin looked as though she had only been born today

Simply put, she dey be

Her eyes were so clear that I felt like she could see through my frame of clay

Simply put, she dey be

This lady’s face was radiant and glowing like the noon day

Simply put, she dey be

As I surveyed her lovely frame, my mind was blown away

Simply put she dey be

I sat at the triage, contemplating whether or not to ask her on a date

But our eyes met and she stared into mine

There and then, I knew I was fine

For that’s what happens when you encounter Revelation!

She just lights up your heart…and you’re fine!

She just dey be!

Seven must-have books to Jumpstart your Journey with Christ

Coming to Christ is an initial step you take to enter into an eternal commitment or relationship with Him. Now, you have to get to know Him and know who you have become…because the truth is that there has been a drastic change in you.

It’s just like when two people get married. The wedding ceremony is not all there is to the marriage. In fact, it’s just the beginning of an adventure of love, and knowing each other and exploring each other in all dimensions.
As a child of God, one of the principal means by which you will grow is through the knowledge of God’s Word. Your faith can only grow through the Word of God, because it is the Word of God that brought you into the faith in the first place (1 Peter 1:23). The Bible says, “Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord.” (2 Peter 1:2). And elsewhere, the Apostle Peter notes, “As newborn babies desire the sincere milk of the Word that ye may grow thereby.” (1 Peter 2:2).
So exposing yourself to the contents of the Bible and teaching materials prepared by anointed vessels of God in the Kingdom is very vital for your spiritual development.
Maybe, you are already enrolled in a Foundation School class or New Believers School class or some class of some sort where you’re being taught the basics of your faith in Christ. This may well be the most important aspect of your spiritual development, so take it very very seriously. It is said that the most outstanding authorities in various disciplines all over the world are those who have mastered the elementary principles of their respective disciplines. If you will give yourself to know the basic truths of Christianity, you will really enjoy your Christianity and live in triumph all the days of your life.
Mind you, though you may have been enrolled in these classes, it is also important for you to personally make time to study the Word of God for yourself, along with sound material. Your salvation is an individual affair and so you must make a personal commitment to know the Lord for yourself and not just have a general knowledge of this Jesus you have met.
So, the following books are recommendations for you. They are easy-to- read and down-to-earth in their exposition of the truths about your new walk with Christ.
Of course, I must insist here that merely reading the books in a bid to have a theological perspective of Christianity can be disastrous, so endeavour to spend time to pray also as you read these materials.
1. The Gospel of John
You may call this book of the Bible ‘Jesus 101’. Its ultimate aim, the author says, is to the end that you will believe in the Name of Jesus (John 20:31). In essence, the purpose of the Gospel of John is to establish you in the faith. One thread runs through the entire book: believe in Jesus.
As you read, you will journey through the miraculous life Jesus lived and be awed by the amazing teachings of Jesus. Right from John’s testimony of Jesus’ deity (Chapter 1) through Jesus’ exposition on the need to be born again (Chapter 3), as well as His classic teaching on the Good Shepherd, Servanthood, the Holy Spirit, to the climax of His death and resurrection, you are sure to be transported to heights of glory you never imagined.
What about Matthew, Mark, Luke and the other books of the Bible? You can and must also read them, but as I have already indicated, the purpose of John is simple: for you to believe in the Name of Jesus (John 20:31).
So, if you have a Bible, flip over to John and start reading today. Otherwise, please comment below and let’s get you at least a New Testament.

When I was a teenager, I was invited to a special meeting after which the first timers were ushered to a special section and handed this book, Now that you’re born again. It is a simple book by Rev. Dr. Chris Oyakhilome, D.Sc. D.D. In it, you will find out so much about who you are in Christ, including the fact that you are sanctified and justified. It’s truly a must-have.

Recently, I met a gentleman and asked him whether he knew Reinhard Bonnke. He said “No.” I was amazed, considering he had been in Church since he was born. Well, this man, Bonnke, is an evangelist, who has literally seen over 78 million people give their hearts to Christ in open-air Crusades in Africa over the last 40 years as he preached the Gospel to them. And throughout all these meetings, each of these over 78 million people have received a copy each of this life-changing book, Now that you are Saved. I don’t have to say much about the book but it is highly life-enriching even though it’s just a couple of pages. There is a section, for example, where he talks about how to develop a healthy spiritual life by drinking water, eating, and exercising. Wondering how?

So, back in the University of Ghana, in level 400, one holiday, there was this meeting held by the Zoe Christian Club at the University Bookshop. I was all the way at Elizabeth Sey Hall, and it was a holiday. I was not really obliged to be at the meeting but I decided to go. So about thirty minutes to time, I set off on foot and went for that meeting. I’m certain that it was one of the smartest long walks I have taken in my lifetime.
The leaders took us through some elementary teachings of Christianity and then when we were about to close, they gave us some cute books. I was excited as I always am when I see books, but little did I know that hidden in these small books were such enlightening words.
One of the books was Basic Elements of the Christian Life (Volume 1) by Watchman Nee and Witness Lee. What a book! I read it once and read it again and have read it again and again. The authors discuss the Mystery of Human Life, The Assurance, Security, and Joy of Salvation, The Precious Blood of Christ, Calling on the Name of the Lord and The Key to Experiencing Christ- the Human Spirit. It’s truly a must-have.
You download your FREE e-copy here. And if you want access to more of their resources, you can visit http://www.lsm.org. They’re all free.

In one month of 31 days, you can go through this all-important book by Joseph Prince. As you journey through this 31-day journey, you are sure to experience God’s grace in a fresh way and walk in the fullness of the blessing of the Gospel.

You can download your FREE e-copy here.

I wrote this e-book somewhere last year. I believe it’s so vital for believers to understand the tenses of our salvation. So, the book is basically in three parts- you have been saved, you are being saved, and you will be saved. This mini e-book will give you a firm grip on how to actualize who you are in Christ and set your gaze on expecting Jesus’ soon return.

7. Key Facts for New Believers

Before I begin, let me give you a heads-up: I don’t have the e-copy yet; I only have some hardcopies…so if you want one, simply comment below and we can work out how to get you yours.
Also a simple book by Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, this book details essential truths about faith, baptism, prayer and Church membership. It is a very practical guide and you must have a copy for yourself.

‘…you’ve got the wrong boyfriend altogether.’

When I was a young man, I had an experience that profoundly changed my whole life and ministry. I had a meeting in North Germany. It was wonderful. The people responded to the Gospel. I was very very glad. At the end of the Service, I stood at the exit, shaking hands with the people as they left when suddenly the Holy Spirit spoke in my heart and said, “Behind you is a young lady that is about to leave.” I turned around and indeed there she was. I caught her by her arm; I said, “Excuse me, have you already received Jesus Christ as your Saviour?”
To my surprise, tears gushed out of her eyes.
She said, “No, I haven’t. I want to but I can’t.”
I said, “Why can’t you? Find salvation tonight in Jesus Christ.”
She said, “Because I’ve got a boyfriend who hates Jesus.”
I said, “Wait a minute! If you have a boyfriend who hates Jesus, you’ve got the wrong boyfriend altogether.”
She said, “No. But I love him so much. I love him so much. I love him so much.”
She pulled herself loose. She walked out of the door. It was night.
The next morning I sat at the breakfast table eating when a friend of mine rushed in and said, “Did you hear? Did you hear? Something terrible happened outside.”
I said, “What happened?”
It turned out that that very girl from the night before had been killed in an accident.
When I heard that, my breakfast got stuck in my throat. I slipped off my chair and I started to pray.
I said, “Oh Lord! Had I preached clear enough and with the necessary urgency!”
The Lord spoke to me, comforted me and said, “You have done everything you could have done!”
But still since that day I vowed to God that I’m going to preach the Gospel with all CLARITY and SIMPLICITY and URGENCY, that even a child could understand.
